The Arya Samaj, founded by Swami Dayanand Saraswati in 1875, is based on ten fundamental principles that emphasize truth, righteousness, and universal welfare. These 10 Principles of Arya Samaj guide its followers toward a life of virtue and social service.

The 10 Principles of Arya Samaj

  1. God is the ultimate source of all true knowledge and all that is known by its means.
    • The Vedas are considered divine revelations containing absolute truth.
  2. God is formless, omnipotent, just, merciful, unborn, endless, unchangeable, beginningless, unequaled, the support of all, omnipresent, immanent, immortal, fearless, eternal, and holy. He alone is worthy of being worshipped.
    • Arya Samaj rejects idol worship and polytheism.
  3. The Vedas are the scriptures of all true knowledge. It is the prime duty of all Aryas to read, teach, and propagate them.
    • The Vedas are regarded as the ultimate source of guidance for spiritual and worldly matters.
  4. One should always be ready to accept the truth and reject falsehood.
    • Seeking truth in all aspects of life is essential.
  5. One should always promote righteousness (Dharma) and social good.
    • Arya Samaj encourages moral living and working for the betterment of society.
  6. Doing good to the world is the primary objective of this society, that is, to promote physical, spiritual, and social well-being of everyone.
    • The focus is on universal welfare rather than individual gain.
  7. Dealing with others should be based on love, justice, and righteousness.
    • Ethical conduct and fair treatment of others are emphasized.
  8. Knowledge should be promoted and ignorance eradicated.
    • Arya Samaj encourages education for all, especially women, and opposes blind faith and superstitions.
  9. One should not be content with one’s own welfare but should consider the well-being of the whole world as well.
    • The idea of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) is central.
  10. One should follow societal rules that promote well-being while ensuring individual freedom within ethical limits.
    • Discipline and personal liberty must coexist for the benefit of all.

These principles form the foundation of Arya Samaj’s mission to reform society by promoting Vedic knowledge, gender equality, education, and humanitarian efforts.
