Family
Durga Shakti Nagpal was born on 15 June 1985 in Agra. Her grandfather Ghanshyam Nagpal was a police officer who was killed on duty in 1954. His father Subhash Nagpal is a retired government officer and has been awarded the President’s Medal for distinguished service at the Delhi Cantonment Board.
Education
Durga did her schooling at Vivek High School in Chandigarh and Loreto Convent in New Delhi and completed her Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science Engineering (CSE) from Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) now known as Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW).
Civil Services Examination 2009
In her first attempt in the Civil Services Exam 2008, Durga Shakti Nagpal secured the IRS (Indian Revenue Services). In her second attempt in the Civil Services Exam 2009, she secured All India Rank 20 and was selected for IAS services. She joined services in 2010 and was allocated Punjab cadre.

Durga Shakti Nagpal IAS Marriage
In August 2012, Durga Shakti Nagpal IAS married Abhishek Singh also an IAS officer of 2010 batch and posted in Uttar Pradesh. As a result through a notification dated 3 August 2012, the cadre of Durga Shakti Nagpal was changed from punjab to Uttar Pradesh. This is wide sub-rule (2) of Rule 5 of the Indian Administrative Service (Cadre) Rules, 1954.
In a notification dated 4 September 2020, she changed her name from Durga Sakthi Nagpal to Durga Shakti Nagpal (see spelling changes in Sakthi) in English language.
Durga Shakti Nagpal IAS Posting
In 2012, Durga Shakti Nagpal IAS was posted as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Sadar, Noida in Gautam Budh Nagar district. She took tough measures to curb the illegal sand mining in the banks of the Yamuna and Hindon rivers in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The “sand mafia” raised a lot of hue and cry and forced the government to transfer and suspend her.
The suspension of Durga Shakti Nagpal IAS received ubiquitous attention from all over the nation. The suspension of this brave lady was largely protested and famous personalities like Kiran Bedi also came out in support of Nagpal. Many people protested against the suspension of IAS Nagpal and tered the action of the UP government as wrong and also believed that Durga Shakti got suspended due to her brave action against the illegal activities of the sand mafia.
Durga Shakti Nagpal IAS served as Deputy Secretary, in the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. As of December 2023 she is serving as District Magistrate and Collector in the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh.
