The Union and the States
Remember, the Article 1 of the Constitution says that India is a Union of States. When we say “India is a Union of States,” it means that India is a single sovereign entity comprising multiple states and union territories. The Indian Constitution emphasizes that the country is an indestructible union, where states do not have the right to secede. This structure ensures a strong central government while allowing states significant administrative powers. The division of powers between the central and state governments is defined in the Constitution, promoting unity, cooperation, and coordination among the diverse regions of India. This framework ensures national integrity while respecting regional diversity.
Our Constitution lays down for Parliamentary Republic type of Executive. India is a quasi-federal state, which means there is a Union Government at the central level and there are State Governments in various states.
